”A mysterious Fortune Teller has just arrived in your town. No one knows who she is, nor where she came from, but rumours claim she owns a unique set of Tarot cards: when she shuffles them and then lays a card on the table, the character in it comes to life..” – This short brief invited artists to the new Challenge at the beginning of July 2017. And people from the whole World started to share their beautiful artworks. And so did I. I’ve created an interpretation of Strength, a Tarot Card of Major Arcana.

Character Design Challenge (CDChallenge) is an amazing challenge in which people from the whole World participate. Its main goal is to unite artists no matter what is their skill level or style. CDChallenge promotes their art, thus helps them to develop their skills. The greatest thing, in my opinion, is that people help each other. And to be honest I myself noticed, like never before, that my skills get better. Not only in a field of technique (the process was faster) but as well as in creative thinking.

At the beginnig the problem lied in a choice of the right Card. I was choosing from a selection of 22 Major Arcana’s Carts. Firstly I planned to create a character that refered to Tower Card (disaster, sudden changes, revelation). I took an interst in Temprace (balance, patience) and Wheel of Fortune (good luck, karma). But at last I choose Strength (courage, control). I did some researche about it.

The Strength Tarot card represents strength, determination, and power in a manner similar to the Chariot. However, the differences between the two Tarot cards are obvious. Where the Chariot represents outer strength and will, the Strength card represents inner strength and the power of the human spirit to overcome any obstacle. The meaning of the Strength Tarot card is about knowing that you can endure life’s obstacles by drawing upon your inner strength and confidence. You have great stamina and persistence, tempered by an underlying patience and inner calm. You are focused on what you need to do, and you go about it in a way that demonstrates great composure and maturity. The Strength Tarot card also reflects a compassionate approach. You are like the woman in this card who offers love and patience to the ferocious lion in order to be able to tame him. You give others space and you are tolerant of their needs. You are accepting and can easily forgive any imperfections. In doing this, you create a safe and trusting environment where you can then gently influence others. This demonstrates a level of ‘soft’ control, persuading and coaxing others to your way of thinking.Biddy Tarot
